Sinus problems can be a chronic condition that people suffer
from. Sphenoid sinus surgery can be an option to preventing problems
from occurring.
Sinus infections or suffering from sinusitis can be very
painful. The nose and sinus cavity is made up of many different
compartments, and each sinus compartment can have it's own troubles
can complications. One of the sinus cavities is known as the sphenoid
sinus this is the cavity that is right behind the ethmoid sinus, and
it set deep into the skull. Think of it right behind the eye but way
in the back. These sinus cavities drain in the back and are very close
to the area where blood is taken to and from the brain and the eyes
operate, this makes it risky is surgery is consider.
Some signs of those that are having problems such as infection of
the sphenoid sinus are headaches, coughing a lot, nasal discharge or
drainage in the back of the throat. There are also signs of infection
such as pain behind the eyes that radiated to the forehead, and
fever. Infections can be cured with antibiotics but some times this
does not help. These infections and irritants are usually pets,
pollution, and dust and pollen. It is hard to avoid these things as
they are in a person's every day life, but they can cause infection
and pain in the sinus.
When antibiotics do not work there is the option of having sphenoid
sinus surgery. Sinus surgery can be a bit risky and is very
painful. However sometimes it is the only option when it comes to
problems with the sinus cavity or infections keep arising. Modern
surgery of the sinus cavity works to clear the blockage of the sinus
or anything that is causing it problems. There is a balloon surgery
that works to expand the sinus cavity and therefor there isn't as much
pressure built up inside the cavity and an infection or problems will
not arise. All surgeries carry risks, and this one is no different
from any other surgery that you may undergo. If surgery is an option
discussing it with a health care professional is the best option as
they can best diagnosis and help understand if that is the best option
for your sinus problems.
