Sinus infections can lead to surgery. What is the endoscopic sinus
surgery recovery time, and what can be expected?
Sinus problems can be chronic and very painful to many
people. There are ways that this can be treated without surgery but
sometimes surgery is the only option. So what are some sinus problems
and what is the recovery period if one were to undergo endoscopic
sinus surgery? The answers can be found below.
Sinus problems are usually manifested with a sinus infection. The
signs of a sinus infection are pretty simple to understand. These
include headaches that start behind the eye almost like a pressing
pain and it moves to the forehead and temple area. There is also a
loss of appetite, possible fever. The main sign is nasal drainage both
through the nose and down the throat. Coughing can be a sign if it is
more then normal as the irritation from the throat causes
coughing.
Antibiotics are prescribed to to try and cure the infection and
problems but this does not always solve it. A procedure called
endoscopic sinus surgery can be performed. Through endoscopic sinus
surgery a small tube is placed up the nose and it can take images of
the sinus cavity and see what is going on. This is noninvasive, so the
endoscopic sinus surgery recovery is very quick. As no liaisons or
cutting is involved there might be a small pinching pain from the
removal of tissue but that is it. This is a great option as the sinus
cavity is so near the eyes and brain that it might cause problems with
normal surgery, with the noninvasive procedure it can cure the sinus
problems with no complications and a quicker recovery time.
Surgery isn't always the first option and it might not be the first
option for sinus infection. Sometimes the infections don't go away
with the antibiotics that are prescribed or sometimes it does go away
to return really quickly. In this case a health care provider will
recommend that surgery be consider to cure the problems that are
causing the sinus to be infected. At least with the modern surgery the
recovery time is quick and minimal pain is involved.
