Sinus surgery recovery is similar to recovering from other kinds of surgery. Patients will go through various things during recovery and need to take care of themselves well.

Endoscopic Sinus Surgery Recovery

Chronic sinus infections can be miserable. They are defined as a frequent sinus infection that lasts more than eight weeks or a sinus infection that may heal within ten days, but reoccur more than three times during the year. There are numerous people who suffer from chronic sinus infections and if antibiotics don' seem to work, your doctor may decide to perform surgery on your sinuses. The goal of sinus surgery is to block any obstructions that are causing drainage not to occur naturally.

Sinus Pressure In Eyes

If your sinuses aren' draining properly, this can be the cause of the frequent infections. The surgery is typically performed as an outpatient surgery. This means that no overnight stay in the hospital is required for this type of surgery. Some doctors may recommend a hospital stay just to monitor how your body is healing. However, if this is the case, you will normally be released from the hospital the next morning.

Sphenoid Sinus Surgery

Like with other minor surgeries, you may experience pain during the sinus surgery recovery. This pain is normally mild and easily controlled with pain medications. The majority of the time, patients can return to work within a few days of surgery. However, even with returning to work, you should restrict your activities for one to two weeks because you may feel tired easily. It' not uncommon to tire more frequently after the surgery, but this should subside within a few weeks.

Swollen Sinuses Symptoms

In addition to any pain pills provided, your doctor may require you to be on antibiotics or a steroid nasal spray for a short period of time. The steroid sprays are normally tapered off shortly after beginning them in order to avoid addiction. Nasal sprays, antihistamines and decongestants are also common medications for patients to take shortly after sinus surgery. You should also be sure to take extra care of your body while it heals. This means eating a proper diet to help keep your body' healing defenses up and getting extra rest. With the proper care, your body should be able to fight off any infection that may occur during its fragile state.
